BUILD A PCCONTENT CREATIONGAMING

Building computers is time-consuming.

Now, I know that some people will disagree with me here, but I've been building computers for years. Sure, actually plugging things into other things is easy, but from the time you decide you need a new computer, to the time you turn it on and you're fully satisfied can take a long time.

A lot of people building computers are younger gamers. Comparatively, you have more free time to get lost in the nitty-gritty of researching components, reviewing what works best for your requirements, creating spec lists (based on your needs and budget), it can be a fun time. Plus you get to integrate yourselves in the build-it-yourself community, and there are some mighty helpful people there.

However not everyone has that kind of time. If you think about it, to do all of that research and analysis above would take someone from start to finish probably around a week or two, depending on how fast they want to move. For some people, especially creative professionals and freelancers, your time is money. For every hour you don't work, is an hour of lost wages. You don't have the time to sit and research all of this, you need to get on with your job. And after work, I'm sure you don't want to spend two or three hours on this, you'd rather relax!

The other issue I've noticed, and you see this a lot in custom computer groups is something I call 'analysis paralysis'. This is where you're inundated with so much information, both from what you've found online and what other people are telling you, that you don't know if you're making the right choice or not. Are you buying the right part? Are you getting the best value for your money? Is it up to date or from the last generation? You see, the tech market doesn’t stop. There's always something new around the corner, so it's pointless trying to time a purchase. Just get what you need, because it'll be a solid upgrade over your current system anyway.

But let's say you've done the research, you spent a week or two finding everything, and you're ready to build. It's not inherently difficult, but it is fiddly. It's a bit like flat-pack furniture. I'll leave that up to you whether you consider that a pro or a con.

But maybe you've pushed through all that: you've persevered. Congrats! Now, you have the joy of being your own technician. Any problems, it's up to you to troubleshoot, diagnose and fix. I'm not too sure if you want to be trawling through forums at two in-the-morning, looking for a potential solution with a deadline looming over you.

This is where Tech Forged steps in. I’m Nigel, and I've simplified the art of building computers so you don't have to. I want to understand your needs, your work, your play.
